The Stevenage Turnback project was undertaken to provide a new Down Hertford Turnback line to release shuttle services from the east Coast Mainline as they were slowing down the faster LNER services. In addition to the new turnback line a new Platform was required to accommodate the new shuttle service from Stevenage Station.
What we did:
MRC Engineering were contracted to undertake the GRIP 4 Reference System Design (AiP) and GRIP 5 Detailed Design for the SISS alterations needed to support the construction of a new Platform 5 at Stevenage Station. The scheme was the creation of a new Down Herford Turnback line into the new platform at Stevenage Station. MRC Engineering also undertook the role of Telecoms Design CRE on the scheme for the design phases.
The Stevenage Turnback project was undertaken to provide a new Down Hertford Turnback line to release shuttle services from the east Coast Mainline which was slowing down the faster LNER services. In addition to the new turnback line a new Platform was required to accommodate the new shuttle service from Stevenage Station.
The new Platform 5 required the design of a new standalone IP CCTV system. The system was to be designed to be standalone due to the planned renewal of the stations Analogue Indigo Vision CCTV system. The new System was designed based on a CISCO, Hanwha and Indigo Vision products with 38 new cameras being required. In addition, the MRC procured acoustic model showed that we needed 28 new PA speakers to cover the new platform and ticket gate area. Due to the number of speakers, MRC had to design for a new V400 amplifier chassis with an M200 amplifier as the existing system could not provide the required expansion. Finally, 6 new Infotec CIS screens and an IPH Multiport Hub were designed to provide the required CIS coverage on the platform and waiting rooms.
The whole system was supported by a new TER on platform 5 containing a new 42U Rittal IT cabinet.
